Local residents have expressed concern over plans to provide permanent sites for gypsies and travellers in the Calne area. The possible sites are on Oxford Road and Abberd Lane.

Calne has a moderately well connected transport network; local buses link the town with railway stations at Chippenham, Swindon and Bath, a national coach service runs to London, and the local Wigglybus service runs to neighbouring villages.
