Calne Rugby Club has two rugby teams with the 1XV sitting near the top of the table in Dorset & Wiltshire Division 1 (North) and the Calne 2XV (Crusaders) storming to promotion (in only their 2nd season) and will now be playing in Dorset & Wiltshire 2 (North).
The club is very family friendly, and welcomes new members regardless of experience and ability. Training is very much open to everyone who wants to play rugby and takes place every Thursday evening 7pm until 8.30pm (approx.) with head coach and Calne rugby legend Rich Kearney running the sessions. For the youngsters, Calne Rugby is developing a youth section to encourage children in Calne to play for their local team and these sessions are FREE. Youth Section head coach Chris Austin runs the sessions every Sunday from 10am until 11am at Springfield’s school (Calne) and children of all abilities are encouraged to take part. At the moment children between the ages of 6-9 are enjoying Tag rugby but from September 2008, children over the age of 9 will be introduced to contact and a more senior game.
