6 Jul 2008 - 00:00

The recent death of jazz and broadcasting legend Humphrey Lyttleton has shocked and saddened his family, friends and many fans around the world.

Humphrey Lyttleton was due to play at All That Jazz summer picnic concert at Lacock Abbey on Sunday 6th July, together with Kenny Ball and his Jazzmen and Acker Bilk and his Paramount Jazz Band.

The concert will go ahead as fitting tribute to Humphrey Lyttleton and Kenny Ball and Acker Bilk will now be joined by another of the UK’s trad jazz stalwarts - Terry Lightfoot's Jazzmen with Melinda Lightfoot (vocals).

Terry Lightfoot made his, professional debut as a bandleader in 1956, and since that time has established an international reputation as a clarinetist, saxophonist and vocalist of the highest calibre. He was prominent in the traditional jazz revival in Britain in the 1950's and reached a much wider audience during the "Trad" boom of the early 1960's. Throughout his career, Terry has recorded regularly, and to date has had over forty albums released, with "The Special Magic of Louis Armstrong' winning a British Music Industry Award for Excellence.

The concert will be compèred by another name well known to jazz aficionados, Campbell Burnap, a renowned trombonist, raconteur and radio presenter, most recently on Jazz FM. Campbell will ensure that All That Jazz at Lacock Abbey is an opportunity for everyone to remember, with great affection, the part that Humphrey Lyttleton played in the UK’s jazz music scene.
