Focus on Shopping

Take the time to discover the surprising range of shopping opportunities Calne has on offer. Whether you are shopping for your weekly groceries, looking for unusual gifts or wanting to start a new hobby - Calne has something for you.

The main shopping areas in the town are the High Street, Wood Street, Phelps Parade Precinct and Church Street. From cards to fashion, gifts to groceries you can find most things you need in the town centre.

It's worth taking the time to walk around the town, taking a rest where necessary in our cafes and tea rooms. Many of our specialist shops and boutiques are located in areas of the town which need to be discovered. The picturesque Church Street and St Mary's Courtyard have a range of smaller specialist retailers including a tea room, designer boutique and antiques shop. Wood Street, High Street & Beach Terrace offer the visitor gifts shops, craft shops, restaurants and more.

There are also a number of specialist retailers located on the Porte Marsh Industrial Estate, selling items direct to the public from their industrial showrooms. These include retailers of furniture, household appliances and modelling kits.

Markets - A Relaxed Way Of Shopping

Markets are a traditional way of shopping and have always been extremely popular, particularly on continental Europe. It's a more relaxed way of shopping, with friendly stall holders willing to take the time to help you with your selection. Calne has regular markets, held in the Market Place in The Pippin. Our general market is held every Friday and offers a mix of different goods. Regular stalls include local fruit & vegetable producers, fresh fish, quality butchery, and home essentials.

Calne also hosts a monthly farmer's market, where you can select the best in local food and plants direct from the producers. Held on the second Saturday of each month, the farmers market brings a wide selection of quality produce to market. Rare breed meats, quality butchery, fruits, vegetables, cakes, breads, jams & chutneys are just some of the fine goods on offer.

Between the months of May and September there is a monthly art & craft market held in the High Street. It is worth a visit to see the locally made goods which include jewellery, paintings, wood carvings and needlecraft.
