Calne residents of all ages will find a full range of sporting and recreational facilities available for them within the town and nearby.
The recently re-opened Calne Leisure Centre offers something for everyone within the community, whether you are a sports person or someone looking to meet others in the pursuit of leisure. Facilities include a state of the art gym, a gala swimming pool and squash courts.
There are also two private sports clubs in the town:
Blacklands Leisure Health and Fitness Club is a modern and friendly club set in pleasant surroundings. Some of the facilities include a swimming pool, fitness suite, sauna, solarium and members lounge.
St Mary's Sports Centre is a state of the art health and fitness suite and swimming pool set in the private grounds of St Mary's School. Various memberships are available with a comprehensive activities programme to provide a pleasant experience for all the family.
The Recreation Club and Grounds at Anchor Road is home of the town's sports clubs. The Calne Bowling Club, Cricket Club, Rugby Football and Tennis Club are among these.
Calne Town is the principal local football club and is based at the Football Ground in Bremhill View. Calne also has very active and successful youth football teams, many of whom practice at The Grove Community Centre, Priestley Grove.
One of the most important developments for sport in Calne is the Beversbrook Sports Project, which is currently under construction and will provide an exciting new facility with space for football, rugby and cricket. In 2007 the Football Foundation granted £1 million towards this project, which will have signficant impact on grass root sport in the town.
Cycling
As well as being located in the centre of so much beautiful Wiltshire countryside, the North Wiltshire Rivers Route runs through Calne. The route is part of the National Cycle Network Route 4 and takes you through picturesque countryside, linking Calne with surrounding towns of Chippenham, Lacock, Melksham & Avebury. Tennis
There are two tennis courts located at the Anchor Road Recreation Ground for tennis. The courts can be hired through the Information Centre (01249 814000). There is also a thriving tennis club you can join.
Facilities for young people
For the younger members of the community there is a very active Youth Centre at Priestley Grove where a wide range of activities are provided.
The Drop in Centre, in Wood Street, provides a 'drop in' cafe style meeting place for the youth of Calne.
There are parks and play areas throughout the town catering for children and young people. Details of the parks can be found on the town council website www.calne.gov.uk.
Skateboarders and BMX enthusiasts can practice their sport at the outdoor bowl in Station Road.
Golf
Golfing enthusiasts will find that they are within easy distance of many Golf Clubs. The nearest courses are those at North Wiltshire Golf Club, and Bowood Golf & Country Club.
